Welcome to the speech and language page!
We are your speech and language team at Welcome Elementary and are here to assist with any and all speech related questions. Mallory Harris provides speech and language services for PreK through 2nd grade. Michelle Powers provides speech and language services for 2nd grade through 5th grade. Please feel free to reach out if you need any help.
The typical process of a parent speech referral:
1. The parent writes a signed and dated letter to the school informing them of speech/language concerns and requests a formal speech and language evaluation.
2. Either Michelle or Mallory will schedule a referral meeting to discuss concerns.
3. If a formal evaluation was requested in the referral meeting, and parent consent given, either Michelle or Mallory will conduct a speech and language evaluation.
4. Michelle or Mallory will then schedule an eligibility meeting to determine if speech services are warranted. If they are, then an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will be created and speech therapy services will be implemented, with parent consent.
